THE LOCATION IS UNBEATABLE,
right in the heart of South Beach, seemingly footsteps from every attraction. The food is incredible, what with sexy STK serving as the crown jewel of its dining options. And the plush, modern rooms offer all the comfort and amenities any guest could desire. For me, though, the very best part of the Ganesvoort hotel is the tranquility of its rooftop deck.
It's 18 stories high above the Atlantic Ocean and I haven't found a more peaceful way to soak up the sun's rays than to lay out on an oversize lounge chair next to the 110-foot-long swimming pool. (There's actually a second pool down on the ground level, as well).
I've probably spent way too much time there than I should; but that's another matter. Indeed, the spacious cabanas, replete with high-definition televisions and comfy sofas, and impeccable drink service, are entirely addictive.
The Ganesvoort provides a perfect getaway. It even has its own 600-foot-long parcel of private beachfront space, a 42,000-square-foot David Barton Gym, and a Parisian-themed hotspot dubbed "Louis," which is operated by the renowned South Beach nightclub impresarios from the Opium Group. If you prefer a more intimate setting in which to unwind, the rooftop deck transforms into an adults only lounge when day becomes night.
Not every room at the Ganesvoort features an Ocean view; so be sure to specify you'd like one when making a reservation. Nothing beats watching the sunrise from comfort of your balcony. All of the rooms come with iPod docking stations, high-definition televisions, fully stocked mini-bars (that are completely cost-prohibitive, even to the billionaires), wireless internet, CD players, and closet safes.
The modern, stylish look throughout the property, be it in your room, the main lobby (where you'll find an awe-inspiring baby shark tank), a restaurant, or an outdoor seating area, is undeniable. The Ganesvoort offers just about the most contemporary feel of any South Beach hotel.
I would highly recommend STK. It's billed as "sexy" and as a "celebrity hangout," but neither of those descriptors would ever influence my decision as to where to dine. All that matters to me is quality of the food (and to a slightly lesser extent, the service), and both are exquisite here. I'm a light eater and the selection of salads is phenomenal. Be warned that most of the menu consists of meat, but there are enough poultry and seafood alternatives to appease just about anyone.
