BY FAR, THE NEW
Riviera 5800 is the finest vessel every produced by the Australian company. In terms of its luxurious amenities, unmistakable craftsmanship, and performance, it exceeds even the very high standards of its predecessors, the award-winning 3600, 4700, and 4400 European-style sport yachts.
Never has there been such a feeling of spaciousness in a boat of its kind; one press of a button and the electronic sunroof glides open to allow in an abundance of sunlight and fresh-air. There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms aboard the Riviera 5800 and movement between the cockpit and saloon is virtually imperceptible. And everything in the galley is stainless steel and top-of-the line, from the three-element induction cook-top stove, to the two-drawer, under-bench refrigerator and freezer, on through the liquor cabinet, water purifier, and ice-maker.
It measures an impressive 63 feet in length, with a beam that is 17 feet, 6 inches high. The master stateroom aft spans the full beam and has a king-size, walk-around bed with en suite. A companionway leads guests from the master to the VIP stateroom, which features a queen island bed. Additionally, there is a port side cabin with bunk beds and starboard cabin that can easily convert from twin berth to a double.
The attention to detail aboard the Riviera 5800 is striking. There is high-grade American cherrywood throughout the interior, as well as a 40-inch, electric-lift, LCD television and a Bose Lifestyle 48 sound system in the saloon. Comfort is of paramount importance, and a 36,000-BTU reverse cycle air-conditioning unit ensures a cool, quiet cruising experience.
Perhaps the most attractive area of the Riviera 5800 is the deck, replete with outdoor speakers and a large sunpad that offers the convenience of adjustable backrests, stainless steel rails, drink-holders, and a cool box.
The starboard helm station is just about as roomy and functional as any I've tested. It was all ergonomically designed and the digital engine readouts (inclusive of AC and DC power and fluid tank levels) on the color LCD display were crystal clear. The sturdy leather seats have electric adjustment and footrests, and the two-level engine control can be changed out upon request in favor of a joystick for simpler and more precise maneuvering in tight spots.
Remarkable power is achieved through three 435-horsepower Volvo IPS 600 engines, which produce a top-speed of 38.3 knots. With its fuel capacity of 700 gallons, the Riviera 5800 has a range of nearly 320 miles.
