It's a very no-frills kind of place, but the food more than makes up for the lack of ambiance and visual appeal at Pita Plus. (Photo courtesy of Katie Winter/ABM). OVERVIEW:
The food is great at Pita Plus, and you know it's hot and fresh because they shave it off the rotating spickets right before your eyes when you place your order. But here's what ruins it. I'm a legendary germaphobe, and as such, I cannot get over the fact there's a grimy-looking bathroom sink in plain view as you first walk in from the north entrance. I haven't returned since first laying eyes on that human bacteria frap. Be that as it may, the meats are excellent. There are all kinds of varieties, but it seems the Shawarma is most popular (among the folks with whom I spoke before sitting down to craft this review). For those who've never tried it, Shawarma is a combination of lamb, goat, chicken, turkey, and beef. PP also has great hummus and tahini. Be warned, though, this isn't a typical restaurant; there are no servers. If you're fortunate, a kindly gentleman will bus your table. If not, you'll feel compelled to dispose of your own used napkins and silverware. So be prepared to stand in a long queue to place your order, as it gets quite crowded during prime time. In observance of Shabbat, Pita Plus closes early every Friday evening and is shut down entirely on Saturdays.
